Birker - Birch Shrink Pot - F
The old norse word for birch, birker gives its name to several places here in the Lake District, Birker Fell, Birker Force and Birks Bridge to name a few. Birch is a fast growing pioneer species, and perhaps gives us hope that these places will once again be clad in their namesake trees in the future. Each item is made from birch harvested from conservation projects which involves selectively thinning trees to help create resilient and diverse woodlands. Shrink pots are made by hollowing out freshly cut sections of wood and then fitted with a seasoned base of either ash or oak. The freshly cut wood shrinks as it dries to create a tight fit around the base.
Hand carved utilising the branch as a natural handle.
Height: 75mm
Intended for use with dry goods only
Please note that we are a small team of two in a rural location and as such postage dates are once a week. Please get in touch on scout@miscellaneousadventures.co.uk if you need your order in a hurry, and we will try our best to help!
