New year, new adventures - we moved to the North!
This is our first Logbook post of 2022 so even though it’s a little belated, Happy New Year! The beginning of another revolution around the sun is always a good time for change, and this year sees a rather radical change for us as we say good bye to our home in the woods after 11 magical years and move north to the Lake District.
The woods had become part of us and us of them, and to leave was the hardest thing we have ever done. So deeply entangled and intertwined had our lives become with our surroundings that to break away was a wildly emotional experience, something that felt akin to a physical uprooting. Yet although we are sad to being leaving the woods, we are also liberated and excited for new adventures and new opportunities to learn and grow.
We may have left one woodland behind, but we are certainly not saying goodbye to our woodland ways; Andrew started a new role last week looking after the woodland and 250 acre estate for Brantwood on the shores of Coniston where he’ll be able to apply the knowledge gained from living in the woods to help conserve biodiversity and to promote traditional woodland skills as well as soaking up as much wisdom as possible about the local flora and fauna, traditions and skills from those around him. We will also be getting involved with local woodland projects and we’re fortunate to have moved to a farm where we will be getting stuck in and helping out with all things tree related and who knows what else…
As for Miscellaneous Adventures, we will have to evolve a little but we intend to carry on sharing our encounters with nature and encouraging a deeper connection to the natural world however we can. We hope to keep the shop updated regularly and as usual we’ll be sharing recipes and woodland insights throughout the year as the seasons unfold.
We have been busy writing notes and even recording a few conversations to make sure we don’t forget the extraordinary experiences we’ve had whilst living in the woods and we hope to share them with you over the next weeks. We also have some major overhauling of our website to be getting on with, so do bear with us as we update the site to reflect this new stage of our adventure. But for now, we are looking ahead to new projects, new connections and new adventures in the mountains of the Lake District…and if you are local, do get in touch, we're keen to meet as many new friendly faces as possible.
That's all for now, we look forward to sharing more soon!
