Woodland Conservation

Woodland Work & Conservation

Andrew has been working in the woods for over 10 years, starting in the woodland we called home before branching out to work independently for local landowners and conservation organisations. He then worked for Wild Sussex, carrying out practical work for The RSPB, Wildlife Trust, Sussex Flow and The Woodland Trust before moving to Cumbria to manage a small estate on the shore of Lake Coniston. He now works as a woodsman, woodworker and conservation contractor and works part-time for The Coppice Coop in the South Lakes. We are available for conservation contracts, small scale woodland management projects, chainsaw and tree work, firewood processing and traditional countryside crafts and skills throughout Cumbria. For enquiries please e-mail us: scout@miscellaneousadventures.co.uk

Ways we can help

Some of the projects we’ve worked on include: restoring a vineyard without the use of pesticides and chemicals, building leaky dams to create natural flood management solutions, thinning of conifers to restore ancient woodland, coppicing, clearing windblown trees, making cleft oak and chestnut fencing, planting trees and establishing wildflower meadows, writing management plans and applying for felling licenses, tree veteranisation and much more. See some of the projects we’ve been involved in below!

Approach

We care deeply about the way land is managed and used and believe in almost every instance there is the opportunity to create more space for Nature. Our view on conservation and woodland management is one that understands relationships and interconnectivity in ecosystems and one that looks to kickstart Natural processes and promotes habitat restoration.

We believe in doing things safely and professionally and hold up to date qualifications in the use of chainsaws, tractors and machinery. We are fully insured and first aid trained.
